A large-scale operation by the provincial command of the Carabinieri and the DIA, coordinated by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate, has been underway since dawn today, July 3, against a mafia organization rooted in the territory of Aprilia. The military personnel of the Carabinieri are executing an order issued by the Rome court that orders precautionary measures against 25 people, some of whom are suspected of being part of an association aimed at extortion, usury, crimes against public administration and drug trafficking.
The investigation activity began in 2018, initiated by the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate and the territorial department of the Carabinieri of Aprilia, with the coordination of the DDA, and allowed to ascertain the presence of a group that also operated in neighboring municipalities and that took advantage of the force of intimidation and the condition of subjugation and silence of citizens to operate in drug trafficking, extortion and usury, possession of weapons. The investigations also allowed to reconstruct robberies, injuries and threats to impose themselves on the territory and obtain the sustenance of affiliated prisoners, usury and exercise of financial activity against traders and entrepreneurs of Aprilia, possession and carrying of weapons to maintain control and to directly and indirectly acquire the management of some economic activities, contracts and public services, also hindering the free exercise of voting.
Along with the arrests and personal precautionary measures carried out against suspects, seizures and searches were also ordered. Further details will be provided during a press conference convened at the offices of the Rome prosecutor’s office.
