After weeks of fire for the city traffic, dealing with a myriad of construction sites that have affected Via Lungomare Trieste, Via Santi Martiri Salernitani, Via Carmine, the administration aims to limit the inconvenience in view of the next interventions deemed necessary. In the last few days there had also been political controversy regarding the‘councillor for mobility, Rocco Galdi, ended up in the crosshairs for the management of traffic in various areas of the city. Scenes of infernal chaos that forced motorists to endure hours of traffic, queues, and blaring horns. Now things are changing.
«After having verified some critical issues in the execution that have caused significant problems for traffic and citizens – the admission of the City Hall – the municipal administration has requested from the various service companies that have carried out work, scheduled or urgent, in the city a rigorous timetable for the timely and definitive restoration of the asphalt». The green light has therefore been given to a systematic schedule of execution (including at night) which, the Municipality says, “contains to a minimum the inevitable inconveniences for the population and mobility while guaranteeing at the same time the safety of the construction sites and the workers involved”.
The first interventions have already been completed in recent days on the Lungomare near the Grand Hotel Salerno and in Torrione alto in via Vestuti, Granato, Quagliariello. The next batches of work are planned in the following streets: via dei Casali from 3 to 4 July, via Calata San Vito from 3 to 4 July, via Francesco Crispi from 3 to 4 July, via Trucillo from 5 to 8 July, via Francesco Lettieri from 5 to 8 July. The news is that the work will not affect the daytime hours, precisely to limit the traffic inconvenience that has infuriated residents and motorists.
«These works – the administration underlines – will be carried out during the night hours between 10pm and 6am with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays. A second phase of work will start in 1July 5, the streets San Leonardo cross Migliaro, Ghandi, Visco». There is a lot to do for the traffic office. The lawsuits between the authority and residents mainly concern accidental falls and damage to things or people. In Salerno, from January to June 30, in the face of 195 claims for compensation for accidental falls on bumps and potholes, a monthly average of 32.5 compensation claims has been recorded to date only for accidental falls and accidents caused by poor road surface conditions.
