From Thursday 4th to Sunday 21st July the Capotorti Music Festival returns to Molfetta, an event that pays homage to the figure of the composer Luigi Capotorti from Molfetta, organized by the association of the same name with the artistic direction of Maestro Nicola Petruzzella.

The second edition kicks off on Thursday 4 July, 7 pm at the Mons. Bello Auditorium, San Pio X Parish, free admission, with a Round Table on Luigi Capotorti and contemporary Apulian composers with a musical intervention by soprano Claudia Urru and pianist Vito della Valle di Pompei. Speakers include Giorgio Appolonia, RSI – Rete Due collaborator, Fabio Larovere, Music Critic, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Annamaria Bonsante, Musicologist, professor at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory of Bari, Nicola Scardicchio, Musicologist, former professor at the “N. Piccinni” Conservatory of Bari and Nicola Petruzzella, composer and artistic director of the Capotorti Music Festival. Unpublished aspects related to the life and figure of Luigi Capotorti, his Neapolitan career, opera and Italian bel canto will be presented. The historical and artistic context in which the many Apulian composers of the Neapolitan School worked will be retraced, as well as the singers who, in vogue at the time, were collaborators of Capotorti, the great composers who were his teachers, such as Nicolò Piccinni, Giacomo Insanguine, Giuseppe Millico and Saverio Mercadante, who was his student. In closing, Nicola Petruzzella, artistic director of the Capotorti Music Festival and author of the studies on Capotorti, will talk about the objectives and contents of the Festival, the prospects and results of the research.

The festival continues on Saturday 13 July, 8:30 pm Auditorium Madonna della Rosa, with the Lirico Gala, featuring the soloists Rosa Angela Alberga, soprano, and Filippo Fontana, baritone, together with the Orchestra and the polyphonic choir “Luigi Capotorti. Saturday 20 July, 8:30 pm Auditorium Madonna della Rosa, All’Opera with the saxophone quartet composed of Daniele Chiapperino, Biagio Pugliese, Gaetano Flora and Luigi Lovicario, who present a varied repertoire that ranges from ancient to modern, from Rossini to Bernstein, with a tribute to Puccini. Finally Sunday 21 July, 8:30 pm Auditorium Madonna della Rosa, Virtuosity for clarinet and strings with the quintet composed of Domenico Masiello, Eliana de Candia, Antonella Altamura, Anila Roshi and Salvatore Pirolo who will perform some masterpieces of literature chamber music by WA Mozart with a tribute to Luigi Capotorti, an exciting repertoire capable of rendering with skill and virtuosity the expressiveness and ductility of the instruments. An appendix is ​​scheduled for November with the presentation of the new Critical Edition of “Jam cessa crudelis” by Luigi Capotorti, a motet for string quartet and tenor voice, a publication that represents a further milestone in the research and knowledge of Maestro Capotorti’s production.

The Festival, which in addition to paying homage to the composer from Molfetta also wants to be a tribute to Italian opera, today Intangible Cultural Heritage of UNESCO, is organized by the “Luigi Capotorti” Association, which since 1991 has been working to enhance the artistic and cultural individualities present in the territory and by the “Luigi Capotorti” Polyphonic Choir which over the years has studied and performed unpublished works by the composer from Molfetta.
