Garbage fire poisons air for hours: 30-year-old arrested

GIUGLIANO IN CAMPANIA – The Carabinieri of the NIPAAF Environmental, Agri-food and Forestry Police Investigation Unit of Naples and the Giugliano in Campania Company have arrested a 30-year-old of Roma origin, living in the nomad camp on Via Carrafiello in Giugliano in Campania, believed to be responsible for the large fire of special waste, including hazardous waste such as WEEE and car parts, started in the morning and only put out in the afternoon by the Fire Brigade, after several hours of work.

The smoke was visible for miles, black as the soul of the waste burned in the area behind the gypsy camp on Via Carrafiello, with the flames poisoning the air for hours, dispersing the toxic product of combustion into the atmosphere and into the lungs of the residents.
The Carabinieri, coordinated by this Prosecutor’s Office, immediately began to work on the origin of the fire, even before the fire surrendered to the water.

The military personnel of the Operational Section of the Giugliano Company and of the NIPAAF of the Carabinieri Forestale Group of Naples, after careful investigative activity and inspections, identified the person responsible, who was stopped a few hours later inside the camp.
The arrested man was taken to prison, awaiting his appearance before the judge, to answer for the illegal burning of waste.
