The arrival of the heat in (almost) all of Italy certainly brings with it an increase in travel. Therefore, the announcement of a transport strike has a greater weight than usual, both for those who live in the country and for those who are visiting here. This is what has been proclaimed by some autonomous trade unions. The staff of Ferrovie dello Stato will stop for 24 hours.

Strike 6 and 7 July

The staff of the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane (FS) group will cross their arms for 24 hours. The announcement by some trade unions underlines a stop in a hurry. Precisely the inconveniences will begin from 9.00 pm on Saturday 6th and they will end at 9.00 pm on Sunday 7 July.

A note from FS warns all passengers about possible changes that could be implemented, due to the union agitation. It is also emphasized that the times reported are in fact indicative. During those hours the stop will be massive and the problems for passengers will be decidedly greater. This does not exclude, however, that changes can be implemented even earlier of the start of the strike and then its conclusion.

Problems of no small importance are therefore in sight with the president of the National Consumers Union, Massimiliano Donawhich in a note requested that all the necessary checks be carried out: “We ask the Strike Guarantor to verify whether the law has been respected, both with respect to the obligation to 10 days notice expected, both with respect to the procedure to follow”.

It is in fact believed that the notice came “at the last minute”which would be generating a large number of problematic situations, considering the holiday period already in progress. Extending everything to the weekend, then, represents the icing on the cake at this time of year.

It cannot be ruled out that all procedures were followed internally but, Dona underlines, “it is of little use for those who proclaim the strike to notify the company that provides the service, if customers are not then informed within the same timeframe”.

Train strike, what to do

The alternatives for passengers there are mainly two. It is possible give up the tripasking for a reimbursement of expenses sustained from the date on which the strike was declared until the time indicated for the departure of your train. This applies to Intercity and Frecce bookings. However, you have until 11.59 pm on the day before the strike itself for Regional trains. This means by the end of Friday 5 July 2024.

It is also possible reschedule the tripwhich however requires a certain speed of operation. In fact, it is necessary to deal with a potentially large number of subjects intent on carrying out the same operation. This means that availability could be limited and, it is good to explain, the user who intends to make a change has no guarantee of finding available places, under similar transport conditions.

Per any information needed regarding connections and services, the toll-free number 800 89 20 21 is available. Alternatively, you can get answers via the Trenitalia app and from Customer Service staff, as well as at FS ticket offices.
