Catania – The Roman Amphitheater in Piazza Stesicoro, Catania, reopens to the public. Tomorrow, Wednesday, July 3, at 6:00 p.m. The Amphitheater will reopen after many years of being closed. A few weeks ago, the monument was taken over by the Municipality, following an agreement between the Municipal Administration and the Regional Archaeological Park. With this agreement, the Park agrees that the Municipality may use its staff for the public enjoyment and enhancement of the Roman Amphitheater, to “support the costs of opening to the public, ordinary maintenance and cleaning of the site, the organizational secretarial service (information and bookings for visits), the surveillance service and the stipulation of insurance policies,” says a note from the Municipality itself.
The entrance ticket to the amphitheater is set at 4 euros, with reductions for university students, schools, seniors over 65, military personnel and resident citizens. Free admission is provided for disabled people, children under ten, tour guides and journalists. For the inaugural afternoon, access will be free for everyone, with orchestra members from the Catania music conservatory who will perform in artistic performances. The summer schedule for visits to the remains of the Amphitheater is continuous, every day, from 9:00 to 19:00, with the last admissions scheduled for 18:30.
