An application on his cell phone and a GPS device placed under her car. This is how an 83-year-old man would have followed the movements of a college student, his neighbor.

For months, according to the police, the man allegedly stalked the young woman. Initially, the man allegedly offered to help her with small DIY jobs, but then he began to escalate the unwanted attention until, in early May, the girl went to the police, reporting continued harassment by the old man.

The Pisa Police Headquarters’ reporting office immediately interfaced with the Specialized Section for Gender Violence of the Flying Squad, which provided immediate assistance to the young woman, initiating a series of investigations, including targeted observation and shadowing services.

The investigations, as stated in a note from the police headquarters, “have thus allowed us to submit to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Pisa a detailed report which reconstructed with evident circumstantial gravity the repeated and serious conduct of the elderly man which constituted the crime of stalking“.

The precautionary measure of a ban on residence in the city of Pisa was triggered against the man. During the execution of the precautionary measure, the investigators of the Pisa Flying Squad carried out a search, including a computer search with the support of the Postal Police experts. An application for electronic tracking was discovered on the suspect’s smartphone, as well as a GPS tracking device connected to the same application positioned under the young woman’s car.
