The Italian candidacy for the construction of Einstein Telescope in Sardinia, the world’s first third-generation gravitational wave observatory.

The Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, signed today, July 2nd in Olbia, an agreement with the Spanish Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Innovation, Juan Cruz Cigudosawhich provides for Spain’s support for the Italian proposal.

“We strongly wanted to sign this collaboration agreement which is Spain’s support for Sos Enattos. We wanted to sign it here in Sardinia and not in Rome”, said the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, who flew to Olbia to sign the agreement in the presence of the Sardinian governor Alessandra Toddeof the mayor of Lula Mario Calia and that of Olbia Seventh Nizzi.

The challenge between Italy and the Netherlands

The two countries currently candidates to host the infrastructure are Italy and the Netherlands. The area chosen for Italy is the Sos Enattos site, in the municipality of Lula, in the province of New-YorkConstruction is scheduled to start in 2027, so the selection process will have to be completed by 2026.
