The consolidation works on the Porto Palo hill in Menfi, in the Agrigento area, devastated by a landslide, are ready to begin. “Today,” announced the President of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani, who requested the intervention of the Structure for the Contrast to Hydrogeological Disaster of which he is the head, “we are keeping our commitment to those people who, because of that sudden landslide, were denied the possibility of continuing their activities or living in their homes. We are starting the works that will allow us to restore the necessary safety conditions, bringing the situation back to normal.”

The offices in Piazza Ignazio Florio in Palermo, directed by Salvo Lizzio, after completing the tender procedures, have entrusted the consolidation work to the company Eredi Marotta of Mussomeli for a sum of 250 thousand euros. With an emergency procedure, Palazzo d’Orleans had made available a budget of half a million euros to intervene on the landslide slope, while for the entire hill, already classified as high risk in the early 1950s, the National Civil Protection will carry out the works that will serve to stabilize it, with a financing of seven million euros. The works, which will last ninety days, consist of the creation of a series of terraces with wooden palisades and the planting of trees capable of fortifying the ground. Drains will also be created to correctly convey rainwater downstream.
