Ten districts for the Palio di Siena today, July 2, 2024. Giraffa, Nicchio, Onda, Valdimontone, Pantera, Bruco, Leocorno, Lupa, Civetta and Oca challenge each other in the Palio dedicated to the Madonna di Provenzano. The Carriera in Piazza del Campo, broadcast live on TV on La7, will be run this evening starting at 7:30 pm. Six of the ten horses are making their debut on the tuff track and none of the quadrupeds has ever won the Palio.

The marking operations of the ten jockeys who will wear the ten Contrade jackets that will be at the ropes were concluded this morning.

In accordance with article 58 of the “Regulations for the Palio”, the Captains communicated in writing to the municipal authority the appointment of the jockey, also indicating his nickname. Inside Palazzo Pubblico, the jockeys, accompanied by their respective Captains, were presented to the municipal authority and the Deputies of the Festival, equipped with their jackets.

The Valdimontone district will run with Jonatan Bartoletti known as Scompiglio, the Panther with Enrico Bruschelli known as Bellocchio, the Caterpillar with Mattia Chiavassa known as Tambani, the Leocorno with Sebastiano Murtas known as Grandine, the Wolf with Andrea Coghe known as Tempesta, the Owl with Federico Guglielmi known as Tamuré, the Goose with Giovanni Atzeni known as Tittia, the Giraffe with Gabriele Puligheddu known as Granito, the Nicchio with Elias Mannucci known as Turbine, the Wave with Carlo Sanna known as Brigante.

This morning, Tuesday 2 July, the Contrada Imperiale della Giraffa won the sixth trial (“provaccia”) of the Palio di Siena, with the horse Ardeglina and the jockey Gabriele Puligheddu.
