OSTUNI (BR) – PUGLIA EVO 2024, THE EVENT FOR OIL CULTURE

The Italian Sommelier Association – AIS Pugliain collaboration with the Puglia Region Department of Agricultureis pleased to announce the event PUGLIA EVO 2024an event dedicated to the promotion of the culture of regional extra virgin olive oil with an important moment of awarding the best Apulian extra virgin olive oils. The event will take place Tuesday, July 9, 2024starting at 6.30 pm, in the suggestive Montalbano Farmhousein the plain of the Millenary Olive Trees of Ostuni.

AIS which since 2012 has integrated EVO oil into its National Day of Wine and Oil Culture and recently inaugurated the course from EVO Oil Taster with its first edition in Gioia del Colle, in the Murgia Delegation, continues its mission to promote the culture of extra virgin olive oil, a product of excellence of the region. With PUGLIA EVO 2024, AIS Puglia intends to give prominence and visibility to this prized product, through enhancement paths that replicate the success achieved in the Apulian wine sector.

The event will start at 6.30pm with a conference on the theme Apulian extra virgin olive oil in the evolution of Mediterranean cuisine, during which industry experts will discuss the importance of EVO oil from the land to the table. Speakers include Dr. Donato PentassugliaCouncillor for Agriculture of the Puglia Region, the Prof. Maria Lisa Clodoveoassociate professor of Food Science and Technology at the University of Bari, and the Dr. Luigi Caricatowriter and journalist, creator of the cultural project Olio Officina, the Dr. Giuseppe BaldassarreAIS National Councilor, speaker and president of the AIS Italia EVO Oil subcommittee. The event will be followed by the cameras of TG5 Taste by Gioacchino Bonsignore. Some representatives of the consortia for the promotion of the PDOs of Puglia Oil, starting from Dauno PDO, Terra d’Otranto PDO, Terra di Bari PDO, Collina di Brindisi PDO and Terre Tarantine PDO, as well as the Consorzio Olio di Puglia IGP, will participate in the conference as partners of the initiative.

The highlight of the evening at 7.30 pm will be the Award ceremony for the Selection of the Best EVO Oils of Puglia 2024, with awards for the best oils in the categories “Intense Fruity”, “Medium Fruity” and “Light Fruity”. The selection was made by a Commission of AIS Professional Sommeliers expert in sensory analysis, confirming Puglia’s commitment to promoting the quality of its oil.

Following this, starting at 8.30 pm, guests will be able to participate in a real sensory tour with tastings of dishes prepared by the Executive Chef of Masseria Montalbano, Giovanni Curri. Among the delicacies offered: frisella with capocollo from Martina Franca, semi-candied tomato, chicory and EVO oil; chickpeas, prawns, tria and EVO oil; salmon marinated with beetroot and gin, orange jelly, lemongrass and EVO oil; octopus salad, celery, olives, pecorino and EVO oil; carob sbrisolona with ricotta cheese with EVO oil and chocolate chips. The dishes will feature EVO oils from the most representative cultivars of the region, including Peranzana, Coratina, Ogliarola, Leccino and Favolosa. A selection of white, rosé, red and sparkling wines will complete the gastronomic experience, highlighting the inseparable combination of wine and oil from Puglia.
