BIO-KACQUACITY: An Innovative Project for Children in Umbria

In the cities of Perugia, Sant’Angelo di Celle – Deruta, Passignano sul Trasimeno, Città di Castello and San Giustino, until September 2024, educational workshops will be held for boys and girls aged 0 to 6. These workshops are part of the project “BIO-KACQUACITY – Biodiversity, Karate, Water and Circus in the City”, an innovative initiative to combat educational poverty, inequalities and socio-economic gaps.

The BIO-KACQUACITY project was inaugurated at the Cooperativa La Nuvola Nido e Infanzia in Perugia. This project was realized thanks to the contribution of the Department for Family Policies – Presidency of the Council of Ministers, through the funds of the public notice “Educate together”. The project sees the collaboration of a partnership composed of the Diocese of Perugia – Città della Pieve as leader and three partners: San Francesco di Sales Soc. Coop.; the Cooperativa Walking of Perugia and La Nuvola Soc. Coop. of Perugia. The project activities, started in June 2024, will end in June 2025.

Mons. Simone Sorbaioli, Vicar General of the Diocese of Perugia-Città della Pieve, expressed great satisfaction for the launch of the Bio-Kacquacity project laboratories. He underlined the importance of the educational commitment of the Church towards all age groups, especially the youngest, who are the Lord’s favorites according to the Word of the Gospel. He also highlighted the importance of collaborations and synergies with public and private entities that share the same educational passion.

The workshops, which will end in September 2024, aim to promote the empowerment of childhood and adolescence, in order to promote the psycho-physical well-being, learning and development of children and adolescents, especially those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable. These workshops involve the implementation of experimental, innovative, educational and recreational actions.

The workshops will be led by associations with expertise in the various topics covered such as Legambiente Umbria, Olympus Sporting Club, FIAB Perugia Pedala APS, Tieffeu – Teatro Figura Umbra, Post – Museo della Scienza Perugia and will be held in the various locations of the partner schools.

The workshops will address various topics, including the importance of water as a common good, biodiversity and its role for life on Earth, the importance of teamwork and inclusion through physical activity, and the importance of road safety to experience the environment by bicycle safely. These workshops represent a unique opportunity for children to learn and grow in a stimulating and safe environment.
