Gigafactory, 5 Star Movement urges government: «Invest in Termoli»

In Molise, the future of the Stellantis plant in Termoli involves 10 thousand people, considering employees, related industries and families. But the question of the construction of the Gigafactory of Acc concerns the whole country. For this reason, the 5 stars of Palazzo D’Aimmo have worked on the question presented by the deputy Emma Pavanelli who essentially asks two commitments to Minister Urso: to transfer the investment of Mimit (500 million of which 350 for the site of Termoli) from the Pnrr (which has a limited time horizon and at this point hardly compatible with the stop to the project decided by Acc) to the Fsc fund (formalizing it with a development contract) and to follow in some way in the footsteps of France, with a financial commitment therefore more conspicuous through Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, and also enter the capital of Acc.
In the Regional Council Library, the pentastellati councilors Roberto Gravina – who first announced the joint work with Pavanelli in recent days –, Angelo Primiani and Andrea Greco illustrated the position of the Movement and anticipated that they will also file a motion in the Regional Council to bring the majority and governor Roberti onto this ground. At least open a public discussion, on the merits of the intervention strategies of the Region, for what is possible, we will see.
Gravina recalled how a series of positive news on the path to the Gigafactory was followed within a couple of months by a cold shower: the freezing of the Termoli project by ACC due to a slowdown in the European electric vehicle market. The company whose shareholders are Stellantis, Mercedes and Total Energies “communicated an extraordinary fundraising by the banks” amounting to 4.4 billion. France, Gravina said, participated for 900 million through its central bank. Italy did not. There is, yes, the allocation of 500 million dating back to 2022 (the protocol was also signed by the Region, then led by Toma), but it is based on the PNRR with the consequences of the case with respect to the tight times for implementing the investment. Times that for the Gigafactory have now become too long.
With the question “we want the center-right chain, national and regional government, to do its part”, concluded Gravina.
“The Gigafactory in Termoli is still relevant. And is it still a priority for ACC? We ask that both the company and Palazzo Chigi provide answers to these questions,” added Primiani, who then also raised the issue of the 11 workers currently stationed in France for training and who should then in turn train their colleagues in Pantano Basso to build the batteries. “What will happen to their future?”
The reconversion of the Termoli site involves an estimated investment of two billion, will occupy an area of 1.2 million square meters, will produce 40 GWh per year and should employ approximately 2 thousand workers by 2020.
“Half of Molise’s GDP hangs on the fate of this plant,” Greco concludes. “And in the Regional Council we see a reticence to even address the issue. It’s time to understand how things really are.”
