Waste, in Catanzaro new tender for separate waste collection

Il Municipality of Catanzaro looks at the prevention and reduction of waste to relaunch the challenge linked to the waste sorting. A goal placed at the centre of the new tender noticepublished on the administration’s tender and procurement portal, for the assignment of the collection and transport service of differentiated urban waste for the next five years. The total expected amount is approximately 51 million euros.

The Mayor’s words

“A strategic investment that looks to the future, starting from the data consolidated since the start of the service that have allowed Catanzaro to reach a percentage of differentiated waste above the national average. We start from an important base that is that of the citizens and operators who, thanks to their trust and collaboration, have shown great spirit of adaptation sharing the challenge of a cleaner and more eco-sustainable city”comment on the Mayor Nicola Fiorita.

The intervention of Councilor Arcuri

Specifically, theCouncillor for the Environment Giorgio Arcuri explains that, in the transitional period until the new service is awarded, a technical extension of six months was granted to the outgoing manager. Furthermore, the administration had to proceed with the new tender pending the definitive start of Arrical which will deal with the integrated waste cycle for the entire regional territory.

“Separate waste collection for the next few years – continue Arcuri – will have to take into account a primary objective that concerns us all closely: the reduction of the quantity of waste to be disposed of, which means being able to shorten collection times and limit the environmental impacts of management. The first results, in this sense, are coming from the responses of commercial operators who have welcomed the recent changes to the collection calendar, contributing to better differentiation and more intelligent disposal. In the long term, the challenge is to limit, for all users, the collection of non-differentiable waste, so as to obtain important results also from the point of view of management costs. A transition that will have to be well guided and assisted, but which I am convinced will once again see the Catanzaro residents as protagonists of a virtuous process”.
