Viterbo – Device 10 times smaller than normal – Patient discharged in good general condition

Viterbo – Belcolle Hospital

Viterbo – Received and published – In recent days, at the Electrophysiology Department, coordinated by Pietro Scrimieri, the first wireless pacemaker was successfully implanted on a 61-year-old patient in Belcolle.

This is the fifth implant performed in Lazio with this miniaturized device, without electrocatheters and equipped with a long-lasting battery, which regulates the heartbeat in people with a slower than normal heart rate.

The operation, performed by Dr. Mattia Petrungaro, as first operator, required the participation of the medical and nursing team of Viterbo Electrophysiology.

A group of professionals – explains Pietro Scrimieri – who, for years, have been at the forefront in the use of the most modern technologies and in the execution of innovative procedures.

Here too, we are among the first in the region and in Italy to have used the new wireless pacemaker which, due to its small size, that is, about 10 times smaller than a standard pacemaker, can be positioned directly inside the right ventricle of the heart with a minimally invasive procedure, enclosing all the functional units in a small capsule. This helps reduce the possibility of complications, both during and after the procedure”.

The patient operated on in the last few days was discharged in good general conditions.

“This new and important health result achieved in Belcolle – comments the extraordinary commissioner of the ASL of Viterbo, Egisto Bianconi – is, clearly, a reason for great satisfaction. I also find that the added value of these important progresses that we are regularly recording, is that they are also linked to the presence in many facilities of young professionals who integrate into our medical and nursing teams.

They are specialists who find in our company, particularly in Belcolle, a dynamic environment, where the most modern technologies are present and in which they can develop and increase their skills and professional abilities. This is the strategic area that we intend to strengthen with the aim of making the entire company hospital network increasingly attractive in the eyes of new healthcare professionals”.
