Municipality of Naples – Naples Ring Road Launches TargaGo Trial
Pass through the toll booth without stopping, thanks to a simple app free and a rechargeable digital wallet. The app, developed by Autostrade per l’Italia, is being tested on the Naples ring road with the agreement of Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport . It is called TargaGo and will replace the traditional “rechargeable” system of Aspi which will be gradually changed with this solution for the dynamic payment of the toll through the sole reading of the license plate, on all the lanes dedicated to electronic toll collection.

TargaGo is an innovative and fully digitalized service for motorists, a new system that will not require any type of device on board. The goal is to speed up the passage of vehicles at the toll booth, eliminating waiting times and therefore polluting and CO2 emissions, for a mobility made more sustainable by the use of a new technology.
During the first testing phase, conducted under the supervision of the Federico II University of Naples, the system was managed by Autostrade per l’Italia. Based on the success of this second testing phase started today, after a discussion with Mit, Aiscat and the guarantor Authorities, in the future there could be, in relation to Tangenziale, an extension to external service providers who are interested in this technology.

How does it work
To use this new system, simply download the app or register on the Targago.it website. The system works by identifying the license plate – in full respect of the customer’s privacy – when the vehicle passes through the “yellow” lanes of the toll booth: it is not necessary to stop the vehicle to make the payment. The system is fast and free and is aimed, in this first phase, at customers who own a vehicle with an Italian class 2 license plate, i.e. 2-axle vehicles: cars, vans, minibuses, ecc. However, motorcycles and heavy vehicles are excluded.
The system allows you to enter up to two license plates for each user.
With TargaGo, tolls can be paid with the “digital wallet” previously loaded with a credit, debit or prepaid card. Once the service is activated, the user will no longer have to worry about paying each individual toll, because the system will automatically proceed with the charge by reading the license plate. And the app itself will warn the user with a notification system when the remaining credit on the “digital wallet” is about to run out. The next step of the experimentation could allow a credit card to be associated with the app without resorting to the electronic wallet, making the payment method even faster.

THE STATEMENTS

Once again Naples and its city highway -declares the Mayor Gaetano Manfrediare at the center of a technological experiment, which sees Naples as a laboratory for this application that will make the passages at the toll booths faster, with a notable benefit also from the environmental point of view. The common goal is to improve the road system and make mobility increasingly sustainable“.

TargaGo –states theCEO of Naples Ring Road Luigi MassaIt is the new sustainable solution complementary to other electronic payment methods which still require a stop. TargaGo It therefore allows you to speed up transits by eliminating queues at the toll booth and therefore reduce emissions. Downloading the app is free and the toll payment is automatic, with the possibility of checking payments made in real time directly from your mobile phone. The service is active at all stations in the 20 lanes dedicated to electronic toll collection marked with yellow signs”.
