Port of Ravenna: Workers strike for the renewal of the national contract

The workers of the port of Ravenna are on strike for the whole days and shifts from 4 to 5 July for the failure to renew their national contract which expired on 31 December.

Filt Cgil, Fit Cisl and Uiltrasporti Uil of Ravenna, in view of the strike proclamations of the national trade unions, communicate the methods of carrying out the mobilization for the port of Ravenna: 2 days of strike with complete abstention from work on July 4 and 5. It is specified that the shifts starting before midnight on July 3 will be completed according to the normal timetable. The strike will end with the resumption of work shifts starting after 00 on July 6.

Despite the state of agitation opened on March 11 and the strike of April 3, 4 and 5 – although having subsequently registered some progress – the negotiation for the renewal of the national collective agreement for ports expired on December 31, 2023, has not yet reached a level adequate to the expectations of workers. There is an absolute need to reach the renewal of the Ccnl for ports as soon as possible, with an agreement that provides for a financial increase useful for recovering the purchasing power lost by workers, as well as further improvements in working conditions, raising safety standards and implementing the existing welfare system. Italian port workers are striking to defend the unity of their national contract endangered by the proposed reform of law 84/94 and by the employers’ associations of large shipping groups who, having also become terminal operators, are impatient with the legislation and the single contract that defends port work.

The dispute for the renewal of the national contract and this important mobilization must also be the occasion in the territory to discuss how the important resources invested in the port do not remain to the advantage of a few, but are an opportunity for redistribution of resources in the territory starting from work, in all its articulations, guaranteed, of quality, fairly paid and carried out in full compliance with all the regulations on health and safety at work.

The strike, in the Ravenna area, will have the following structure: complete abstention from work for all 24 hours for the days 4 and 5 July for employees of companies pursuant to articles 16, 17, 18 L. 84/1994, of the Port System Authorities, of the former general interest companies that apply the Ccnl of port workers and of workers temporary employed in the companies involved. It is specified that the strike will not concern services that may in any way involve the rights of constitutionally protected persons, those to life, health, liberty, safety, freedom of movement.
