TORINO – Mayor Stefano Lo Russo underlined the need for the operation to fell diseased trees along Corso Belgio in Turin, highlighting the importance of preventive measures. During a live radio broadcast from the Urban Lab in Piazza Palazzo di Città, Lo Russo commented on the impressive storm which hit the city the previous day, causing the collapse of several trees. “Yesterday’s downpour was impressive and knocked down several trees, including along Corso Belgio,” the mayor said. “This situation has reaffirmed the urgency of the ordinance to remove the trees at risk. I hope that now everyone sees the need for these operations with greater clarity and rationality. Fortunately, there were no injuries to people, but the situation could have ended differently.”
Lo Russo also addressed the emergency that affected the Turin valleys over the weekend, underlining theintensity of phenomena atmospheric and the need for a new strategy in land management to prevent hydrogeological instability. “It is clear that more effective planning is needed,” the mayor said, “However, it must be acknowledged that civil protection has responded excellently. We must now address the reconstruction phase to mitigate the economic repercussions, especially in view of the upcoming tourist season.”
