“The reopening of Via Vittorio Veneto with the simultaneous possibility for citizens to use a single pedestrian path that from Viale Marconi leads to Piazza Conteduca continuously crossing the former Distillery and the railway underpass, is one of those good news that we have been waiting for a long time but that must not distract us from a context on which there is still a lot of work to do and on which we must always keep our attention high”. This is what the representatives of the Constituting Cappuccini Committee wrote in a note.

«It must be acknowledged that today’s opening, in the presence of an active construction site (disabled ramp and elevator to be completed, hopefully within the expected timeframe), responds to the mobility and travel needs of many citizens, especially those who prefer not to use the car to go to and from the center to the neighborhoods beyond the railway, where, we want to remember, 2/3 of the population live.

The new intervention, although still partial, effectively unites, like a zip, two parts of the city that are still severed in several places.

We refer:
– at the connection of the new roundabout of Via Andria with Via Vittorio Veneto (still under completion),
– maintenance work on the underpass connecting Viale Marconi with Via Imbriani (these construction times have also been significantly extended)
– to the improvement of lighting, cleaning and decor of Via Reichlin – to the reopening of Via Galvani
– more adequate lighting on Via Leonardo Da Vinci where the current light points are completely covered by treetops
– to the arrangement of the pavement on Viale Marconi (GOS side) which is impassable due to its small size and deterioration and in any case mandatory and necessary for pedestrian safety given the presence of a well-known construction site on the opposite side.

These are just some of the most urgent interventions, which are also simple and inexpensive to implement and which could improve, and not a little, pedestrian mobility in complete safety, also reducing the flow of vehicles that constantly pour into the Center from the only access doors of the underpass of Via Alvisi (here too the sidewalks could be rethought in a non-mixed cycle/pedestrian function) and the overpass of Via Imbriani.

For now, out of a sense of constructive participation, we welcome the new opening and hope that it can be the prelude to a series of interventions that improve the quality of life in our neighborhood and the entire city.”
