Gangmastering, Lbc presents a question to the Mayor of Latina on the Pnrr funds
Il Lbc movement, through the council groupand, presented a question, signed by all the minority councilors, to the mayor of Latina Celentano and to the president of the council Raimondo Tiero to understand what happened to a large part of the overall funding of 4 million 363 thousand euros obtained by the previous administration to combat all forms of discrimination and gangmastering.

“The death of Satnam Singh, the laborer who was the victim of an accident at work and was abandoned by his merciless exploiters with a severed limb and other very serious injuries, has dramatically brought to light the issue of gangmastering and the role that politics should have in making radical choices by deploying resources for the prevention and fight against this phenomenon”.

In the question, the movement’s councilors retrace the steps that led to obtaining the funds under Mission 5 of the PNRR, which also included the objective of overcoming illegal settlements to combat the exploitation of workers in agriculture.

The Municipalities had been identified on the basis of a mapping of the housing conditions of agri-food workers carried out by the National Association of Italian Municipalities and the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies. And in Latina, over 4 million euros had been allocated. In February 2023, under the commissioner’s management, a Local Action Plan drawn up by the competent Rup of the Welfare System Programming service was approved, in which the illegal settlements of the Canale delle Acque Medi, on Via XXIV Maggio, formerly Oasi di Vita, were identified, providing for their decommissioning in favor of specific structural interventions. The Welfare Service and the Heritage Service were then given the mandate to prepare a draft intervention for each illegal settlement identified to accommodate a maximum of 57 beneficiaries to be placed respectively in a property located on Via Nicolai, confiscated from organized crime and assigned to the Municipality, and in a former school building on Migliara 44.

“At present, however, there is no evidence that the Ministry of Labor and Social Policies has redefined the maximum amount of funding assigned with the relative reopening of the terms for the delivery of the project sheet – Lbc points out – We therefore ask the administration for a detailed report on the state of the art of the project and what other local action plans have been presented by the current administration to commit the remaining part of the funds, equal to 1,717,167 euros, of the important financing line of the PNRR”.
