UDINE, 02 JULY – A drunk man drove a car for over 10 kilometers in the wrong direction on the A23 motorway between Udine Nord and Udine Sud before being stopped by the Highway Police, which thus avoided possible tragedies. The incident occurred on Sunday morning at 6.20 when the Operations Center of the Highway Police in Udine, which coordinates services on the major highways in Friuli Venezia Giulia, received the first report from safety sensors located along the network and from phone calls from users in transit. The surveillance cameras recorded the incident: long minutes of terror spent in the overtaking lane, brushing against several vehicles, until the intervention of the Amaro Highway Police patrol, in “Safety Car” mode, in the Treppo Grande area, safely stopped the gray Smart near the “Cormor Ovest” parking area. Previously, along the route the vehicle had caused a small accident, with only minor damage to property. At the time of the check, the driver, a 32-year-old Italian citizen in a state of confusion, tested positive to the breathalyzer test, which recorded values of more than 4 times the legal limit. His license was immediately withdrawn, an administrative fine of up to 8,186 euros for driving the wrong way, the car was impounded for three months and he was reported to the Udine Public Prosecutor’s Office for driving under the influence of alcohol.
