The opposition’s countermove: push at least five regional councils towards requesting an abrogative referendum

The battle for differentiated autonomy is fought in referendum shots.
Emilia Romagna and Campania are in fact ready to request the repeal of Law 26 June 2024, n. 86, “Provisions for the implementation of the differentiated autonomy of the ordinary statute Regions pursuant to Article 116, third paragraph, of the Constitution”.
By calling a referendum that the majority group leaders and the 5 Star Movement have asked to be able to propose.
A extraordinary and single-theme session for this purpose it has already been convened in Campaniawhere the regional council will join theJuly 8th to vote on the request.
In Emilia Romagna the discussion should be scheduled at the latest on July 9th because, given the announced resignation of President Stefano Bonaccini and expected for July 11 or 12, time is short.
However, they must be at least five regional councils in order to be able to aim for an abrogative referendum.
For this reason, it was requested that the resolution presented to the two regional councils also be sent to the other Regions, invited to adopt “an equal act so that the referendum initiative can be followed up on”.
The main focus is on Tuscany, Puglia and Sardinia.
