Modica – Marcello Crucetta, 60 years old, well known as “Marcello ‘re Gelati”, has died. He was suffering from an incurable disease. He was well known and esteemed for his activity as an ice cream maker that he carried out in Marina di Modica in the summer.
During the cold season he worked as a school bus driver.
On the night of August 5, 2019, while returning from Marina di Modica, he and his itinerant van were involved in an accident with a car traveling in the opposite direction. The impact was very violent. The vehicle, purchased 32 years ago and adapted to an ice cream truck, had overturned and was literally destroyed. The hearts of the Modicans were touched by an interview given by Marcello to a local broadcaster where, with tears in his eyes, he said he did not have the possibility of buying another van, hence the decision to cease the activity he carried out together with his children. A few hours later, the race for solidarity began, on one side some traders who had started a collection within their businesses, on the other private citizens who, anonymously, began to donate.
