Presentation of the “Beware of Scams” project in Trani

The Municipality of Trani, in agreement with the ANTEAS Trani Association (National Association of All Active Ages for Solidarity), presents the project “Occhio alle Truffe” (Beware of Scams), an initiative aimed at preventing and combating scams against the elderly, supported by the “Single Justice Fund” of the Ministry of the Interior – Department of Public Security.

The project’s mission is clear: to inform and protect citizens, with particular attention to the elderly, through various initiatives.

The Association has planned a busy calendar of meetings to raise awareness and inform the community, especially the elderly, about the risks of scams and how to prevent them, through a series of events that will be held throughout the month of July and August in places most frequented by the adult population. It will be a real information and awareness campaign to provide practical advice through the support of law enforcement, experts, legal advisors and psychologists.

The project will be presented on Tuesday 9 July at 5:30 pm at the “G. Bovio” Municipal Library in the Ronchi room (second floor).

The following will take part in the works: Amedeo Bottaro (mayor of Trani), Debora Ciliento (regional councilor for transport and sustainable mobility), Fabrizio Ferrante (deputy mayor), Alessandra Rondinone (councillor of social policies), Alessandro Attolico (director of the General Affairs Area – services to people), Ida Iannelli (president of Anteas Puglia), Vincenzo Lezzi (Secretary of the FNP section of Bari). Speakers will include Rosanna Dipasquale (ANTEAS referent for the “Occhio alle Truffe” project), Massimo Biasone (commander of the Trani Carabinieri Station), Mariantonietta di Gravina (legal consultant).

The project will be implemented in collaboration with the Police, facilitating communication between citizens and the police for reports and suspicions of fraud. The project activities include:

  • a research to map the phenomenon of scams against the elderly, through the compilation of an anonymous questionnaire, available both online and in paper form
  • activation of an “anti-fraud” desk at ANTEAS to provide support and assistance, legal and psychological advice to help victims of fraud manage the consequences and prevent further episodes
  • activation of the toll-free number 800090388 to report scams and receive initial instructions on how to contact the police.

The “Anti-Fraud” Help Desk is open from Monday to Friday, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 4 pm to 7 pm at the ANTEAS Trani headquarters, in Via Umberto n. 75. Anteas Trani invites all citizens to actively participate in these initiatives, to build a safer and more aware community.
