The creation of a large station square, a space for social and cultural gathering with a direct connection to the urban park, and the construction of a cycle path with a protected pedestrian path. Regeneration of the historic Travelers’ Building, the new railway station and the extensive outdoor areas.

These are just some of the interventions planned in the redevelopment project of the Teramo stationpresented on July 1st during the discussion started between the mayor, Gianguido D’Alberto, and the entire citizenry, whose construction site will be opened by 2024.

A moment of sharing, in the presence of representatives of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (leading company of the Infrastructure Hub of the FS Italiane Group), to illustrate the architectural intervention strategy conceived for the Teramo Station, capable of restoring to the city a continuity of both the fabric and the urban space.

With a total investment of 23 million euros (financed with PNRR funds, Program Contract funds and updates, as well as a contribution from the Municipality), the redevelopment project also foresees that the passenger building – losing its railway functions – maintains its commercial use (restaurant/bar) with the possibility of hosting, in the vacated premises, recreational and cultural activities, as well as a bicycle station to encourage the use of bicycles to reach the station.

The functions relating to primary services for travellers will therefore be transferred inside the accessory building, which is also a protected historical building, and both buildings will be completely redeveloped with seismic improvement interventions.

Among the important works, the construction of a new station access covered by a shelter: an important urban redevelopment project that will allow direct access to the new station platforms from via dell’aeroporto and a covered pedestrian connection with viale F. Crispi.

The redevelopment project of the external areas was also conceived to give back to the citizens an easily usable system of public spaces, with the increase of greenery, new trees and flowerbeds.

The new green areas will constitute 35% of the total new public spaces, with a positive impact also in terms of soil permeability, favoring the reduction of greenhouse gas and carbon emissions.

Furthermore, RFI, responding to the needs expressed by the Municipal Administration and after having conducted a complex analysis of vehicle accessibility, will create a new road connection between Viale Crispi and Via dell’aeroporto.

Finally, on the basis of RFI’s transport study, the various intermodal facilities have been identified: 6 short-term parking spaces, 1 Kiss&Ride space, 3 parking spaces for people with reduced mobility, 10 spaces for motorcycles, 20 spaces for bicycles in addition to those in the cycle station, 2 for taxis, 4 bus spaces and 2 spaces with provision for electric cars.
