BARI, 02 JULY – The Piano Lab festival, which celebrates the piano, the king of instruments, in Puglia, includes for its eighth edition four sunset recitals from 5 July to 9 August between Lecce and three towns in the Itria Valley (Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica and Ostuni) and two dawn concerts in the Torre Guaceto nature reserve, in the Carovigno area, on 28 July with a leading exponent of Latin Afro jazz, Omar Sosa, and on 18 August with one of the greatest exponents of the stride piano style, Luca Filastro. Sosa and Filastro themselves will also be among the protagonists of a new listening proposal entitled ‘Al Piano’, scheduled in Martina Franca on August 11, when twelve famous pianists (the other participants are Boris Bloch, Roberto Cacciapaglia, Thomas Umbaca, Costanza Principe, Jean Marc Luisada, Orazio Sciortino, Maurizio Baglini, Leonardo Pierdomenico, Oleg Marshev and Michele Marvulli) will alternate in different spaces of the historic center. Organized by ‘La Ghironda’ with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Puglia Region and the host administrations, Piano Lab starts with a special recital by Leo Caligiuri, a transversal pianist who will perform on Friday July 5 (8 pm) in Lecce, in the Garden of the Foundation named after the great Salento sculptor Nino Rollo. The event will continue its itinerant journey on Friday July 12 in Cisternino, where Leonardo Colafelice will be on stage; on July 19 in Ceglie Messapica to listen to Cristina Di Lecce; on July 20 in Ostuni, Melissa Parmenter will be the protagonist; on August 9, again in Ostuni, Rosario Mastroserio. The festival will close in Ceglie Messapica, where on August 31 and September 1, for the two-day piano marathon ‘Play with us’ (free admission), over 200 pianists are expected, including from abroad, engaged in almost 150 hours of performances, across genres, with mini-concerts spread across 10 different locations.
