There is a drop in attendance on the beaches
Bad weather continues to hit Italy. While Valle d’Aosta and Piedmont are counting the damage, the disturbance is descending towards the South in these hours. Strong winds and storms are expected. Yellow alert today in nine regions: Abruzzo, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Molise, Puglia, Tuscany, Umbria and Veneto. Rain also in Lazio.
And bad weather ruins the early summer party on Italian beaches with generalized drops in attendance in June compared to last year. This emerges from the estimates of the Sib – Italian Beach Resort Union which also highlights that, also in this case as in other sectors of tourism, the real lifeline is represented by foreigners. “The beach resorts in all regions – says Antonio Capacchione, president of the Union adhering to Fipe Confcommercio – are recording a double-digit decrease in attendance on our coasts compared to the same period last year. In particular, Italian vacationers have deserted our beaches, mainly due to the adverse weather conditions. We are optimistic because the bookings for July and August are promising”.
These are the presences on the beaches, compared to the same period in 2023, according to a survey conducted on a sample of Italian beach businesses: Abruzzo -20%, Basilicata -10%, Calabria -15%, Campania -30%, Emilia Romagna -25%, Friuli Venezia Giulia -30%, Lazio -50%, Liguria -60%, Marche unchanged, Molise +10%, Puglia -20%, Sardinia -15%, Sicily unchanged, Tuscany -15%, Veneto -15%.
