Assets worth over 650,000 euros. This is the amount seized from a businessman from Carpi, investigated for failure to file a VAT return and concealment or destruction of accounting records, in his capacity as director of two companies operating in the sector of marketing spare parts for motor vehicles.

The precautionary measure was issued following two tax audits carried out by the Guardia di Finanza of the Carpi Company, which brought to light the existence of a fraudulent scheme aimed at tax evasion, ignoring any tax obligation.

By exploiting the two companies in temporal succession to manage relationships with the same customers and suppliers, the scheme involved the purchase of spare parts for motor vehicles exempt from VAT, claiming that they were destined for markets outside the European Union: in reality, the goods were then sold to Italian companies, issuing invoices indicating VAT, which was collected but not paid to the Treasury. Due to tax evasion, the two companies were therefore able to apply particularly advantageous sales prices, thus altering free competition between operators in the sector.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office, on the basis of the sources of evidence acquired, requested the application of the real precautionary measure to the GIP of the Court of Modena who issued a decree with which he ordered the preventive seizure of the proceeds of the contested crimes. Since financial availability and company shares of the suspect in the State of San Marino emerged, the channel of judicial cooperation was also activated for the simultaneous execution of the provision abroad.

As a result, also thanks to the active collaboration provided by the foreign Judicial Authority involved, sums in current accounts and company shares for a total value of approximately 100,000 euros were seized, in addition to jewels, valuable watches and other valuables held in a safety deposit box in the State of San Marino.
