To win the men’s D series it took about ten months of training in the gym, over 200 training sessions for a total of 500 hours of physical and technical work. These are the numbers from Città di Castello Pallavolo, which started again from the regional category to try to get back to the top. In the championship it had obtained second place, the result of twenty-four games with 19 victories and 5 defeats; in the play-offs four games were played and as many victories were achieved. Undoubtedly eloquent numbers those of the Tifernati who for over 50 years have represented the city and the territory in a discipline that has known moments of great exaltation. Born in 1964 on the initiative of some students, the first women’s volleyball team called Tifernum, recorded strong growth and from 1969 to 1972 the triumphs and the apotheosis of promotion to series A arrived. In 1972 the men’s team was also set up; with the help of the unforgettable Don Bruno Bartoccini, here too the growth is exponential and at the end of the 80s the promotion to Serie A is central. There will be periods of ups and downs, with the financial difficulties that will arise several times and will force to take steps backwards. The red and white sports club, operating in the men’s and women’s sectors is a long-lived sports institution, daily committed to expanding and consolidating the movement, to spread in addition to the practice of volleyball also those values of sport among the younger generations.

The person who has lived the club’s events in their entirety is the manager Mauro Alcherigi: “Volleyball has been present in my life since 1972. In 1997 I was called to be a manager and since then I have continued to work uninterruptedly and safeguard the history and tradition of volleyball in the city. In recent years I had sought a generational change, but in June 2023 I found myself faced with a complex situation. We had to decide to return to direct involvement or the men’s sector was destined to disappear. At that point I returned to where it all began with Enzo Sideri. One sunny afternoon at the tennis facilities our common pasts were united again. At the end of August there were only a few boys in the gym, but we were not discouraged, in the meantime the gym was filled again with boys and girls even from nearby Montone. The D series allows us not to exclude anyone due to age, it becomes our championship. We have written a new page in the book, the bond between Città di Castello and volleyball is immortal”. Today Città di Castello has 90 athletes who compete in 6 championships.
