Photographing in the Dark: Verona hosts an exhibition of photographs taken by the visually impaired and blind.

In Verona, the exhibition “Photographing in the Dark” presents the shots of seven visually impaired and blind people: it is the result of a one-of-a-kind photography course. It all started from a brilliant idea by Sergio Maria Viscianophotographer and teacher. During the summer of 2023, Visciano studies how people with visual impairments perceive realitytransforming this research into an opportunity for artistic expression.

The photography course for the visually impaired and blind.

L’The Italian Union of the Blind and Partially Sighted of Verona enthusiastically welcomed Visciano’s initiative, who organized a structured course in theoretical lectures, podcasts, practical exercises and tactile models. Seven participants learned how to use a digital camera, la Panasonic GH5, through tactile explanations of fundamental photographic concepts such as angle and depth of field.

The students then had decided independently what to photograph, dividing into thematic groups: exterior architecture, views and interiors. Each participant chose the framing and settings of the camera, taking pictures with the help of a tripod.
