APU Udine, many new faces who know each other: here’s who you’ll find again

It’s true, the APU Udine roster has undergone a real revolution. No veteran from the 2022/23 season is still on the roster and even compared to the championship just ended there are several new features (click here to learn more about the choices of coach Vertemati and DS Andrea Gracis). To aim high it will be important to quickly build good team chemistry. In this, the past of the new additions plays an assist in favor of the technical staff. Many of the players on the roster will in fact meet teammates in past adventures, more or less recent.

Let’s start with the largest group: Lorenzo Caroti, Giovanni Pini and Xavier Johnson know each other well, having shared the triumphant ride that led Scaligera Verona to Serie A in the 2021/22 season. The team coached by Alessandro Ramagli defeated Udine in the final. The three will meet again for the first time. After the promotion of the yellow and blues, the playmaker remained in Serie A2, choosing Cremona; the Italian big man did the same, but chose Cantù, while the US player remained in the top division.

New signing Francesco Stefanelli also has Veneto in his past, but not in the same time frame. The guard has played with two Bianconeri during his career: Mirza Alibegovic, in his first ever season in Serie A2 with Tortona in 2017/18, and Matteo Da Ros, with him in Cantù between 2021/22 and 2022/23.

Finally, Iris Ikangi and Lorenzo Ambrosin played together in Scafati in 2021/22; with them there were also Diego Monaldi and Quirino De Laurentis, who wore the black and white jersey last season.
