Degradation, vandalism, including two fires set by youth gangs in the last six months: these are the conditions in which the baseball/softball facility in Brecce Bianche is found. It was discussed yesterday during the session of the II Commission thanks to the motion presented by Diego Urbisaglia (Ancona Futura) and Massimo Mandarano (Italia Viva) who asked the administration to address the problem, also addressing the concession to a sports club. The majority rejected the motion, choosing not to choose and in fact leaving the area in total abandonment. While the councilor with responsibility for sports facilities, Daniele Berardinelli, had said he was available to look for solutions to take back control of the facility – changing room building, stands and playing field -, perhaps also adapting it for other disciplines, perhaps making it available to the youth sectors of the Ancona football clubs, other members of the majority closed the door. Voting against, therefore rejecting the motion, while the group leader of Fratelli d’Italia, Jacopo Toccaceli went deeper: “As a good father, I want to understand how much that facility costs and when it makes money and, if necessary, I would also be in favor of demolishing the site if the expenses to fix it and reactivate it”. To date, the municipal concession with a local softball company is still in place, as explained by the municipal managers who spoke in the commission. In exchange for an annual fee of 4,500 euros, the Municipality has provided for a fee of approximately 13 thousand euros per year for maintenance. Fee blocked since 2020, that is, since the company no longer honored the concession fee. The management contract expires on June 30, 2026 (a surety policy is also active), but since the site has been abandoned for years, it shouldn’t be a problem to resolve that contract: “Maybe by activating a new call for tenders to interested companies, including those from other sports – Urbisaglia and Mandarano proposed -. Having a well-managed facility also means a social presence in the area, for the good use of all residents of the area and not only, since people come there from various neighborhoods, up to Pinocchio. Keeping a structure in those conditions is of no use to anyone and only brings problems, see the two recent arson incidents. Maybe on that site events, concerts, in short anything could be organized to recover a degraded area that is not good for anyone”.
