Last night, Ravenna police arrested a 48-year-old man for resisting a public official, assault, and disruption of public service. The arrest occurred following an episode of violence inside the emergency room of Ravenna hospital, where the man went on a rampage. The man had gone there after self-harming following an argument with his partner and after taking antidepressants. With a bleeding arm, he began to protest with the medical staff, demanding immediate care. His insistent request soon gave way to aggressive behavior, culminating in an assault on the medical staff and the disruption of the assistance service.

The intervention of the police was necessary to restore order and ensure the safety of other patients and hospital staff. The interruption of the regular assistance service made the intervention of the police necessary. A flying squad from the police headquarters arrived on site. When the officers arrived, the man continued to demonstrate his hostility with insulting phrases and threats. Subsequently, he began to push and kick the officers in an attempt to resist being taken to the police station. During the fight, one of the officers was hit in the leg, suffering a contusion to the knee with a prognosis of three days. Yesterday afternoon, the man, defended by the lawyer Mattea Mandara, appeared in court before Judge Michele Spina. He pleaded guilty to a suspended sentence of six months after having partially compensated the damages for the injuries caused to the officer. The episode represents yet another case of aggression inside the hospital in Ravenna, and raises concerns about safety and the management of emergencies within healthcare facilities.
