The 2024 edition of the “Stati generali dei Patti per la Lettura” took place in L’Aquila, Capital of Culture 2026, at the suggestive Palazzo dell’Emiciclo. Present at the prestigious cultural event representing the Municipality of Barletta, the Councilor for Culture Oronzo Cilli, as speaker.

The event, promoted by the Center for Books and Reading of the Ministry of Culture, is dedicated to the network of “Pacts for Reading” and has the aim of implementing policies that encourage citizens to read and share good practices that promote reading.

In addition to being a policy lever recognized by the national legislator (law 15 of 2020), the Pact for Reading has become a mandatory requirement for the granting of the qualification of City that Reads, issued by the Center for Books and Reading. The States General, now in their fourth edition, were an opportunity to take stock, analyze reading data, think about new reviews and practices to outline in the medium term. In particular, the 2024 edition focused its attention on the Regions as a central institution for a more widespread planning of reading policies.

Speakers included Barletta’s Councilor for Culture, Oronzo Cilli, in the panel dedicated to “Good practices and projects for reading: a national network to be strengthened”, moderated by Rossella Pace. Among others: Roy Biasi and Maria Fedele (Mayor and Councilor for Culture Taurianova, book capital 2024), Marco Fioravanti (Mayor of Ascoli Piceno and President of Anci Marche), Annarosa Mattei (writer, former head of Cepell School), Andrea Palombi (ADEI), Fiammetta Terlizzi (librarian, former Director of Angelica Library), Antonio Tomassone (Mayor of Pietracatella CB), Fulvia Toscano (Artistic Director of Naxos legge).

Also present at the important event was the historic and recognized “Sabino Loffredo” Library of Barletta with its manager Emanuele Romallo.

Barletta has been a “City that Reads” since 2017, since the national establishment of this denomination reserved for the most virtuous municipalities.

There are many initiatives in favor of books and reading in the city of Barletta. In 2021, the Municipality of Barletta signed the Reading Pact which sees around forty local entities committed to promoting the pleasure of reading. The commitment of the Cannito Municipal Administration and the Culture Department continues.
