A story that starts on October 27, 2022, when the task of evaluating the phytosanitary status of the stone pine was entrusted. Then the subsequent draft signed by the forestry doctor Cristiano Massarelli – everything is explained in detail in the published ordinance – registered in April 2023: «The presence of the tree is not assessed as compatible with the characteristics of the site in question, assigning the specimen to the propensity to collapse class D». The technicians were then asked if alternative solutions to felling could be hypothesized (pruning, canopy consolidation, etc.): negative outcome, it must be pulled down. There is also the flowerbed in the middle: “It cannot be removed.” We get to the point.

“Considering the levels of high frequentation of the area by people, the presence of commercial businesses and buildings in the surrounding area, the vulnerability of the area was assessed as absolutely high, just as the level of risk related to the presence of the tree specimen was considered high, as the effects related to its even partial collapse would be absolutely serious”. Result? Green light for felling and, subsequently, the possibility of “removing the stump in relation to the presence of the existing construction works will be assessed in order to plant a new tree, the species of which will eventually be agreed with the municipal offices”. The person responsible for the procedure is the highly qualified official Federico Nannurelli and the act can be contested at the TAR. In any case, any filing of the appeal does not suspend the effectiveness of the provision.
