Forget stress, hectic everyday life, traffic. We are waiting for you on board for a relaxing boat ride that allows you to discover a new dimension of the city seen from the water from a privileged perspective. Evening river Padua: navigation from Bassanello to Porte Contarine in the heart of Padua. Departure at 7.30pm from Bassanello, boarding under the Moscatore bridge (via Adriatica 1 Padova). Possibility of parking at the nearby Park Bassanello. Summoning of participants 10 minutes before departure. The navigation begins from Bassanello, an important river junction south of the city, at the point where the waters of the Bacchiglione flow into the Canale Difesa, the youngest of the Padua canals, built in the nineteenth century and enlarged in the twentieth century, to put an end to the disastrous floods of the city.

Leave the entrance to the Battaglia Canal and the Ponte dei Cavai behind you and walk along the Ducatore Canal to the Voltabarozzo Navigation Lock, an important hydraulic artefact from the early twentieth century which allows you to overcome a height difference of 3.50 metres. Once past the lock, you navigate along the San Gregorio Canal to the point of confluence with the Piovego and enter the city, passing the San Gregorio counter-support. An evocative route, along the city waterways, while listening to the tales of the past and the stories of the old professions linked to river navigation.

We go up along the “Piovego Canal” and after passing under the medieval “Ponte dei Graissi” we navigate along a suggestive river route between the internal canals of the city admiring the ancient Venetian Renaissance walls from a privileged perspective. After passing the sixteenth-century staircase of “Porta Portello”, the ancient river port of Padua, with the magnificent Istrian stone portal, we skirt the gardens of the Roman Arena.

Finally, we continue towards the Porte Contarine, where we plan to land. The Porte Contarine are the most notable hydraulic structure in the city and are located at the point where the Naviglio Interno once flowed into the Tronco Maestro del Bacchiglione, an obligatory passage point for boats leaving the city to head towards Venice. Approximately 9:00 p.m., disembarkation at the Conca di Porte Contarine (via Giotto) in the heart of Padua, a stone’s throw from the Scrovegni Chapel. For those interested, the return to Bassanello can be made with the convenient and frequent tram service that takes 20 minutes to get you back to the starting point.
