Foggia: the teenager with Down syndrome excluded from the performance last year returns to dance

Mrs Giusy Ruberto writes to us with her husband Mr Michele Mastropietro:

Many will remember the shameful incident that affected my daughter last year,
a 13 year old girl with down syndrome: the dance school of
Foggia, who had been attending for some time, excluded her from the final essay, news that we
parents we discovered by chance. “She is clumsy in her movements – they told us – not
manages to keep time, with his performance he will skip a year of work.”
For us but above all for Maria Francesca it was a great pain: she didn’t listen
no more music in the bedroom, she no longer wore a tutu to dance. The story, up
in the limelight of the national news, had made us gather the solidarity of
all Italy. But our daughter had now become another child, passed away in
body and spirit. Last year we decided to enroll her in another one
school, “SPACE DANCE” by Lucia Fiore. Here she was immediately welcomed
much affection from both teachers and classmates, new but also
old, because some have decided to follow her in the change of school. Floor
slowly, day after day, we saw it rekindled in Maria’s eyes
Francesca, that light that had been extinguished for a few months, that enthusiasm
overwhelming, and our joy was immense when at the essay organized at
Teatro Del Fuoco by the teacher Lucia Fiore, artistic director, in
collaboration with the teacher Cristina Carbone, my daughter’s teacher, and the
teacher Giovanna, my little girl managed to dance on stage for the first time
time and did it in time with her classmates, coordinating in a manner
elegant movements like all, just like a butterfly. Maria Francesca
he showed all his commitment, his tenacity, his great love for
dance, demonstrated that limits can be overcome, all those that everyone
brings with it, only thanks to the professionalism, patience and dedication of
those who are passionately committed to their work. Wonderful, delicate,
Her classmates were exceptional and welcomed her
looked at with the eyes of the heart. On that stage what I didn’t was realized
I never thought it could happen: a true project of love, of inclusion,
of integration, of facts and not of empty words to which I am now accustomed. Those
The dancers were like the seeds of a pomegranate, all united, all the same and all
differently special. Thank you with all my heart.
