Lake Como Sublime landscape.

It is the one represented by the works collected in the nineteenth century by Giovanni Battista Sommariva and now on display at Villa Mainona in Tremezzina

The exhibition “Sublime landscape. Lake Como at the time of Giovanni Battista Sommariva” is inaugurated Saturday 22 June e presents, for the first time to the public, a selection dthe 39 watercolors and prints by different authorsItalian and international, depicting views of the most sought after and visited destinations in the early years ofnineteenth centurywhich today leave an important testimony of how much the cultural landscape along the banks of the Lario it was already great appeal for travelers and intellectuals. During the visit it is possible to linger on previously unseen views of various locations on Lake Como and notice details and details that have now disappeared in today’s landscape and architecture.

The exhibition hosts the works purchased by Giovanni Battista Sommarivagreat art collector, to decorate his residence in Tremezzothe current Villa Carlottaand date back to the period inclusive between 1801 and 1826.

The event, edited by Fabio Cani and Marco Leoniis created with the patronage of Chamber of Commerce of Como-Lecco and with the collaboration of Villa Carlotta. The selection of works, by public and private collectionsstarts from the etchings of Gerolamo Mantelli. The latter are dedicated to How and to some of the most renowned residences of those years such as Villa Olmo And Villa Pliniana to I’ll be back. The exhibition continues with the Swiss Peter Birmanwhich portrays villas and shores of the lake and with some prints dedicated to the consecration of Villa Sommarivaor Villa Carlotta, already at that time made accessible to visitors by the owner himself to show his collection. Also noteworthy are: spouses Carolina and Federico Lose, of German origin but long present and active in the Bergamo area; its English Marianne Colston And Alessandro Sanquiricopainter and set designer of the Teatro alla Scala.

The images are accompanied by original texts taken from guides of the timelike those of Carlo Amoretti and Davide Bertolotti dating back to 1817 and 1819; and the journey ends with the permanent exhibition entirely dedicated to Villa Carlotta and to prints dating back to the first decades of the nineteenth century.

Inside the museum it is possible to investigate in depth the history of the Larian territory and the area of Tremezzina thanks to a multimedia system which allows for comparison historical maps and images with the current territorial structure. Furthermore, the cultural and environmental heritage through one collection of ancient prints of the Lake Como and a series of photos of the second half of the nineteenth century and early twentieth century.

Particular attention is also given to the event “Cinema on the Lario“, to the filming and short films of the films shot on the lake, including some works by Alfred Hitchcock until Star Wars II it’s at Casino Royale.

The exhibition will be open to visitors from 22 June to 29 September, from Thursday to Sunday, during the opening hours 10am-12pm and 2pm-6pm.
