From the Mediterranean Fair to the “Pallone” in Viale del Fante, the most disparate hypotheses have been made in two years.

Now, after yet another meeting with committees and sports clubs, the approval has arrived from the Municipality: Palermo will have a new municipal swimming pool.

The tank will be built in the area of Conca d’oro shopping centerin viale Lanza di Scalea, to make up for the closure (at the end of June for renovation works with Pnrr funds) of the current structure in viale del Fante.

Andrea’s entrepreneurial group will build it Zamparinison of the former president of Palermo, by virtue of an agreement signed on 9 May 2009 between Immobiliare Malu Spa and the Municipality of Palermo.

Today the council led by the mayor Roberto Lagalla approved the resolution signed by the councilors Alessandro Anello, Maurizio Carta and Giuliano Forzinetti which gives the green light to the construction of the tank inside a multipurpose sports facilityin Fondo Patti, also including a gym and fields for various disciplines.

The new pool, 33 x 25 metres, it will be accomplished in one hundred days: «According to the timetable drawn up by the engineers appointed by the Zamparini group – explains the sports councilor, Anello – it will take one hundred days.

A directive from the mayor with a priority character for reasons of public interest has already made it possible to accept the application for a permit to build in agreement presented to the municipal technical office by the technicians of the construction company”.

According to what was reported by the councilor, the system will be delivered and made available to the Municipality by October 31stwhich will manage it until the return date of the Viale del Fante structure.

The pool will initially be uncovered and a tensile structure or cover will be installed for the winter.

What happens to the Viale del Fante plant
The works on the municipal swimming pool, which include interventions in both pools and both internal and external stands, will last approximately 2 years and have a deadline to be respected: June 2026under penalty of losing the funds.

The calendar and deadlines of the Pnrr (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) speak clearly and time is running out.

By June 20th this year, Palermo swimming clubs will have to remove their equipment from the facility.

The external pool will close from the end of June, while the internal one will remain open until July. to limit the damage while waiting for the new structure at Conca D’Oro.

The stalemate on the issue had created serious inconvenience not only for the citizens (and this is no small thing), but also for one of the sports teams that bears the name of the city, the Telimarwhich plays in the A1 water polo series and in the European championship (Len Euro Cup).

While waiting for a new pool – due to the continuous stops – the team had to move training between the municipal pools of Terrasini and Palermo. Where he could train and compete only in the indoor one but without an audience due to the unusability of the stands.

To make up for the closure of the Viale del Fante structure, the Municipality has now also started adialogue with the managers of the main swimming facilities in Palermo to make them accessible to sports clubs thanks to the development of agreements and conventions based on the tariffs applied to the Municipality.

«We wanted to give an answer – states the mayor Roberto Lagalla – to the city and the sports clubs, at the same time as the works financed with Pnrr funds which are being carried out on the Viale del Fante facility. This facility, in addition to its strictly sporting value, also has an important social value for the city.”
