Pga Italiana, Professionals and Over 50s competing at Garlenda

Rome, 4 June. (askanews) – Two championships at stake, only one competition field. PGA Italiana writes another page of its competitive tradition and, as it has often done in the past, brings together elite teams and senior professionals, each for their own trophy. The challenge is that of the eighteen Ligurian holes of the Garlenda Golf Club (Savona), which are sixty years old but offer an ever-present tactical performance, where the strategy is dictated by centuries-old olive trees, fruit trees, oaks and pines artfully placed, in a continuous up and down.

Among the hills of the hinterland but not far from the sea of Alassio, Garlenda is a charming club, with a very British layout (designed by the Englishmen John Morrison and John Harris in 1964), as well as the atmosphere of the club house and the rooms on the field. A club that, however, does not give up the technology of the sophisticated Top Tracer, to be tested on the driving range. Taking place from tomorrow, both championships will be played over two rounds, for individual professionals but also for team success in pairs with an amateur partner. On the table for the event, 18 thousand euros.

Among the seniors there are players who have left their mark at international level such as Costantino Rocca and Baldovino Dassù, there are also Massimo Florioli, Michele Reale, Giuseppe Calì, Mauro Bianco and Zeke Martinez. On the women’s front, the veteran of the championship is Stefania Croce (already three Italian PGA titles under her belt, ten years on the American tour and a victory in Europe), with Federica Piovano (who played for eight seasons at the highest level of golf European Championship, winning a race) in search of her first success among the Ladies of the Association.
