The Scenari, The Look and the Story Festival kicks off in Modica

“Scenarios. The gaze and the story” is the literary festival of Modica, promoted by the Garibaldi Theater Foundation and its superintendent Tonino Cannata and organized by Piera Ficili’s Mondadori Bookstore, which has reached its third edition this year.
From 24 June to 28 July, for five weekends in a row, the most beautiful squares, buildings but also the alleys and the most evocative views of the city will become the stage for the presentation of books, meetings and debates of a literary and cultural nature. The atriums of Palazzo San Domenico and the former Convento del Carmine, the stairways of San Giovanni, San Pietro, San Gioirgio, the churchyard of the Madonna delle Grazie, are the places populated by the enthusiasm of the many who will attend the events of Scenari 2024. An event that brings together the institutions of the city and the territory in perfect synergy and then important expressions of the entrepreneurship and private initiative of Modica
After the success of past editions, with prestigious guests such as Daria Bignardi, Walter Veltroni, Lidia Ravera, Antonio Manzini, Simonetta Agnello Hornby, Paolo Crepet, Catena Fiorello, Pif, Enrico Mentana, Malika Ayane, Stefania Andreoli, Antonio Manzini, Luca Palamara, Mario Giordano and many others, this year too Modica confirms its attention to the national and international cultural panorama, to the world of books and contemporary literature in many facets and opens its doors to important authors who have enriched and embellished the editorial, media and journalistic agenda for 2024.
We begin with an extraordinary opening: on Monday 24 June at 7.30 pm Alessandro Baricco will be in dialogue on his latest novel “Abel” (Feltrinelli) with Mattia Insolia.
A weekend entirely by Rizzoli will then follow: on Friday 28 June at 9.00pm Paolo Mieli will analyze “The authoritarian century”, on Saturday 29 June it will be the turn of Valentina Romani with her debut book “Guarda che è vero” at 7.30pm and Sunday 30 June again at 9.00 pm Giovanni Grasso will lead us into the folds of an impossible relationship with the novel “Nobody Sees Love”.
We then move on to the following week: on Thursday 4 July Sigfrido Ranucci will reveal the behind the scenes of the profession of reporter with “The Choice” (Bompiani); Friday 5 July Dario Maltese will talk about the lives of well-known Italian faces living in France with “Les Italiens” (Rizzoli) and will be together with Sara Doris who shines a light on the figure of a great entrepreneur, banker but also family man, with ” Ennio, my father” (Piemme). On Saturday 6 July Serena Bortone will take us to the Rome of the late 1980s with her moving and empathetic novel “To you close so sweet” (Rizzoli) while on Sunday 7 July it will be all about author’s detective stories: Piergiorgio Pulixi, in bookstores with “Per un’ora d’amore” (Rizzoli) he will be in dialogue with Massimo Carlotto and his “Trudy” (Einaudi).
The second of July will be a weekend dedicated to literature, cinema and theatre. On Friday 12th July, Ludovico Tersigni, an actor and presenter much loved by young people, will be a guest for an outside-the-box look with “See you beyond the horizon” (Rizzoli). On Saturday 13 July Stefano Massini will analyze one of the most discussed texts in history, delving into his latest work “Mein Kampf. From Adolf Hitler” (Einaudi) in dialogue with Francesco Musolino. On Sunday 14 July the actor Vinicio Marchioni will present his first novel, a touching family story, “veniremi notte” (Rizzoli).
We will have four other events dedicated to women and philosophy. Thursday 18 July Lorenza Gentile will take us on a journey with her adventurous and fun characters towards “Everything beautiful that awaits us” (Feltrinelli); Friday 19 July Selvaggia Lucarelli will present us her latest book “Il vase di Pandoro. The rise and fall of the Ferragnez” (Paper First). On Saturday 20 July Donatella Di Pietrantonio will talk about “L’età fragili” (Einaudi), her latest novel dedicated to all women who have survived violence. On Sunday 21 July Maura Gancitano and Andrea Colamedici (Tlon) will stage a true “Eulogy of Idleness”: in the frenetic race for productivity that characterizes our era, the figure of the “slacker” is often seen as an anachronism or, worse, as an obstacle to progress.
The grand finale will be on Sunday 28 July with Luca Bizzarri, actor, writer and presenter, who with his ironic and shrewd verve will present an overview of our contemporary tics with “They don’t have a friend” (Mondadori).
This year the festival uses an illustration created specifically by Giovanni Robustelli, a figurative artist who focuses his work on the grammar of the sign.
Modica opens its scenarios, from 24 June to 28 July, for the third edition of the “Scenarios, The Look and the Story” Festival. All meetings are free entry while seats last.
