“Worried about failure to start work”

“We are concerned about the failure to start work on two crucial lots of the Catania metro. These lots, contracted by the Ferrovia Circumetnea – Mit contracting station and assigned to the Consorzio Stabile Medil, are an integral part of a project started decades ago and fundamental for the completion of the city’s metro network.” This was stated in a joint note by the regional secretary of Filca Cisl Sicily, Paolo D’anca, and the provincial secretary of Filca Cisl of Catania, Pippo Famiano.

“The lots in question are the extension of the Fce railway network in the Catania metropolitan section, from the Central FS station to the airport. This lot, known as the “Stesicoro – Airport – Completion Lot” section, has a cost of more than 400 million of euros and was awarded in July 2020 with the signing of the contract in July 2021 to the Consorzio Stabile Medil.

The Second Lot of upgrading and transformation of the Fce in the urban areas of Catania and Misterbianco and of the submetropolitan section up to Paternò, includes the completion of the section between the exit of the “Nesima” station and the exit of the “Misterbianco Centro” station. THE

The cost of this lot is 120 million euros and was also awarded in August 2021 to the Consorzio Stabile Medil. A serious discussion must be started immediately to highlight the interferences that do not allow the two Monte Po-Misterbianco and Stesicoro-Airport routes to depart. These works have been stalled for years now and cost more than 500 million euros with resources already allocated. We have been asking Fce and the Medil company for some time to commit to overcoming the critical issues, and we had hoped that the construction site would be completed in a few months but to date nothing has happened”.
