The question seems unpleasant. There’s no point in going around it and counting on the omnivorous pre-election visibility where everything adds up. The responses of the mayoral candidates asked to answer whether they will go to the inauguration of CasaPound, which opens its doors today at 4pm in Corte Dandini, range between annoyed and offended. But there are also those who take the opportunity for a joke and those who distance themselves with diplomacy. Yet the neo-fascist movement characterized by the esoteric symbolism of the octagonal turtle invited them all to the inauguration of the Diavolessa (as they renamed the venue). Partly in jest and partly to see how it ends, one might say. Not even a little curiosity about the She-Devil? “Is this a joke…?”, asks mayor Enzo Lattuca in return, the very one whom CasaPound personally invited, certainly not to offer to cut the Devil’s ribbon, but to “concretely reiterate that CasaPound has been operating for 14 years even in Romagna in broad daylight, without secrets and awe”. It would be the answer to that “…there is some club that, as if it were run by mice, secretly displays Celtic crosses on the ceiling” uttered by Lattuca in his speech of April 25th. Does Mayor Lattuca have anything to say at CasPound’s invitation? Flat answer: “No.” After all, he has already said what he thinks and it is difficult for the neo-fascists to offer him pastries. And, if that’s the case, it’s better to be wary. “What question is that, excuse me? I don’t understand. What does it mean?” begins with an aggressive tone, as if to the point, Paolo Sensini (Civic List “For peace and the common good. Cesena alive and united”). “What do I have to do with CasaPound? I didn’t have any invitation.” And here the tone becomes ironic: “They snub me. The mayor is their contact. But with everything that is most important in the city… And then on Saturday I’m not here. I’m in Bergamo for a conference”.

Marco Casali (centre right), the most ironic candidate of the quartet vying for the seat which today belongs to Lattuca, laughs it off. “Ah, yes? CasaPound is inaugurating an office? However, I’m not going there. Have you ever seen a politician going to inaugurate the headquarters of another party?”. Yes, out of institutional courtesy. “Well, then I’m going there with a sign that says I’m here just out of courtesy. No, I’m not going. I think it’s an instrumental invitation just to get attention. And then honestly we’re not in agreement with them.” But there are also those who, surprisingly, don’t simply throw away the invitation. “We have not received any formal communication – replies Marco Giangrandi (civic-centrist) -, if it were to arrive we would not shy away from the discussion, given that it is not an illegal organisation, but we would only go there to underline our difference and our vision totally opposite to theirs”.
