Security emergency, raise the alarm on Salerno it was yesterday governor of Campania Vincenzo De Luca during his traditional «weekly point» on TV. And this time it was the minors who came to his attention. «Yesterday I reported to the prefect a serious incident that occurred in Freedom Square Saturday evening at 11.30pm – said the president of the regional council – an episode that has never happened in this city: a baby gang of young criminals attacked a boy, these are things that we find widespread in all urban areas of Italy but in Salerno it is a novelty. Some 16-year-olds committed unimaginable violence against another boy. Some of these imbeciles have put pictures of themselves with guns in their hands on their social media profiles. I therefore appeal to parents to monitor their children more carefully: they are 16-year-olds who probably live in families where the parents are more imbeciles than them.” And again: «These scoundrels took photographs of themselves in front of writings like Ahab: I have informed myself, it is an insult to the police who I urge for greater night vigilance and for them to catch these scoundrels by securing them to the law and to their country’s prisons: the sooner we do it the better. What happened is intolerable, intolerable.” The clarifications on the social photos arrived then: the reference to the publication of photos depicting armed children is separate from the episode reported by governor De Luca.

THE BROGLIACCI

The police, who were busy monitoring the nightlife in that area on Saturday evening, did not report any fights or beatings. All that appears to be a report made by the mother of a sixteen-year-old to a carabinieri patrol, which at that moment was controlling the area between Piazza della Concordia and Piazza della Libertà, regarding a punch in the face received by the son from a peer following an argument. Argument between him and the other boy, not a fight. Report which was taken care of by the military personnel and verified with a report to the prosecutor’s office for minors. That area, the police say, was manned.

SERVICES

Already starting from this weekend, however, during the last session of the Committee for order and public safety, control services will be intensified through a dynamic patrol plan which will allow faster and simpler movement of cars from one point of the city to another based on the needs of the moment. Reinforcements will also arrive Campania crime prevention department of the state police. Furthermore, the area between Piazza della Concordia and Piazza della Libertà has become the object of particular attention within the Committee as it has been revitalized by the presence of nightclubs and as it has become a meeting point for very young people, as well as until a few years ago it was Santa Teresa beach.

THE COMPLAINT

And regarding safety there is also the complaint from mayor of Salerno, Vincenzo Napoli who, speaking of the objectives set within the Committee, explains how the real problem “is the safety perceived by citizens”. “The statistics of the numbers – reiterated the mayor – do not indicate an increase in crime phenomena, however there is a perception of safety which must be taken into account to give citizens a sense of tranquility”.

THE MEASURES

Within the Committee, however, precise measures were taken (remember) not without some controversy regarding the competences relating to the detection of road accidents. There will therefore be joint patrols that will follow an operational module to encourage the dynamic use of cars coming from other areas so that, in case of need, they can converge quickly on the place where the crime is taking place.
