Piazza Camerlata without traffic lights, transformed into a maxi (really maxi) roundabout. The suggestion, therefore for now still one step or perhaps even two below the actual idea, was relaunched this evening by the mayor of Como Alessandro Rapinese, guest of Etv.

“The idea is beautiful and suggestive – said the mayor – but there are a series of critical issues. For example, however, councilor Ciabattoni (holder of the delegation for public works, ed) supports this idea and it was one of the discussions we had. Ciabattoni, although he is an architect, in these roles he is a politician, I am not entitled to talk about it because I am a textile expert”. Then Rapinese added that “there are problems on via Scalabrini and other problems that should be studied. Then, of course, eliminating the traffic lights is a spectacle.”

“I – added the mayor of Como – have seen it done in Rimini and Riccione, where the traffic lights from the hill to the sea were eliminated, but there they could also afford it. In absolute terms, however, the roundabout is preferable to the traffic lights because you decelerate but don’t stop.”

Finally, still on the subject of new roundabouts, Rapinese confirmed that “as soon as the works for the new roundabout on Varesina are finished, we will start with the one in Casate, at the intersection with via Virgilio (here is the project)”.
