Arezzo Casa turns 20 and reflects on the future of living

The future of living at the center of Arezzo Casa Spa in 2024. The body responsible for public residential construction in the Arezzo area has reached twenty years of activity and, for the anniversary, has planned a cycle of initiatives that will find the their hearts on Friday 27 September with a conference that will bring together speakers from Italy and abroad in the city to outline new scenarios, perspectives, projects and policies in the housing sector. A stage of the approach path was experienced during the fifth edition of the Officine Social Movie festival promoted at the Cinema Eden by the Officine della Cultura and the Multiethnic Orchestra of Arezzo where the viewing of the film “L’odio – La Haine” by Mathieu Kassovitz on the riots that broke out in the 1990s in a working-class neighborhood on the outskirts of Paris was followed by a debate in the presence of architect Silvia Casi (expert in French public housing) and Lorenzo Roggi (president of Arezzo Casa).

The evening made it possible to present the “AC20 – The future of living” festival scheduled from Monday 23rd to Sunday 29th September when, every day, events will be proposed between the city of Arezzo and the four valleys aimed at promoting meeting opportunities between citizens, associations, institutions and professionals. With this aim, the calendar will also propose creative workshops in synergy with the Officine della Cultura themselves which, promoted directly in the spaces of public housing and aimed at residents, are aimed at creating a sense of common belonging to generate solidarity and sharing. The path will find its completion in the conference on 27 September which will provide an international perspective on “social housing” which, starting from the analysis of the past and delving into the challenges of the present, aims to lay the foundations for a better future of living. Among the speakers will also be Casi herself who will illustrate her projects conducted in France where architecture has been interpreted with a social purpose to give dignity and well-being to the “cité”, that is, the working-class neighborhoods of Paris.

The aim of “AC20 – The future of living” is to stimulate moments of union and involvement and, from this perspective, the program will be enriched by exhibitions, literary events, works of street art, sporting activities and music, as well as by screening of a documentary film dedicated to the history of Arezzo Casa and the provision of a traveling camper to meet the residents directly. Particular attention will also be paid to the younger generations to encourage education regarding housing issues and to enhance their perspective on the “right to housing”. Arezzo Casa thus promoted the drawing competition “The house I would like” for primary schools and the writing competition with the theme “Give us a thought” for lower secondary schools which saw the participation of seventeen classes from across the province. representing the Cesalpino Institute of Arezzo, the Sanarelli Institute of Pratovecchio Stia, the Leonardo da Vinci Institute of Anghiari, the Fermi Institute of Marciano della Chiana and the Magiotti Institute of Montevarchi. All the works will be exhibited in an exhibition during the “AC20 – The future of living” festival to enhance the contribution of every child and every young person, also providing an award ceremony for the best in terms of quality of creation and relevance to the subject.
