Milan, 24 May. All aboard the ‘Lomellina Express’. On Sunday 26 May the appointment is at 9.25 am at Milan Central Station, with the historic train heading to Pavia and Mortara. The trips that over the years have found considerable favor from the public are resuming: an initiative now in its eighth edition, promoted by the Department of Transport and Sustainable Mobility of the Lombardy Region in collaboration with the Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane Foundation and Fs Treni Turistici Italiani .

The ‘Lomellina Express’ takes travelers from Milan to Mortara through the landscapes of the Lombard countryside and the Ticino park. Once in Lomellina, users will have various tours available to discover the area including natural areas, castles, abbeys, typical gastronomy and farms immersed in the rice fields. The staff of the Italian Tourist Railways association will be present on board the train to assist travellers.

The journey will be on a train with an electric and steam locomotive, ‘Centoporte’ carriages from the 1930s, ‘Corbellini’ carriages from the 1950s and baggage compartment. The train will stop in Milan Rogoredo (arrival 9.37, departure 9.39) and Pavia (a. 10.12, p. 10.27). The arrival in Mortara is expected at 11.05.

“The historic trains – explains the regional transport councilor, Franco Lucente – demonstrate that there is a great desire to discover Lombardy on board unique convoys, sitting comfortably in carriages of great charm. Thanks to the collaboration between the Lombardy Region and the Fs Foundation, every year thousands of people go to discover the itineraries and landscapes of our region through an authentic journey through time, aboard trains that have made the history of the Italian railways. In the name of gentle mobility and rail tourism particularly appreciated by travelers who immerse themselves in an experience with a high attractive, historical and cultural value. The success achieved in recent years by the Lomellina Express testifies to the effectiveness of the path undertaken with the Fs Foundation and FerrovieNord”.

After the journey on May 26th, the Lomellina Express will depart again on September 29th on the occasion of the ‘Welcome to Lomellina’ event and the Goose Salami Festival respectively. On historic trains it will always be possible to transport your bicycle on board for free using specially equipped luggage compartments. Tickets to travel on historic trains can be purchased on all Trenitalia sales channels, ticket offices, apps and the official website. Children up to 14 years travel for free.

To support the valorization activities of the historical heritage of the railway, as per the service contract, the Lombardy Region makes 600,000 euros available each year. Of this budget, approximately 300,000 euros are allocated to historic trains, operated by the Fs Foundation. The calendar this year includes 20 circulations.
