Mount the case of sermon of Imam Brahim Baya. The leader of the Taiba mosque in Turin responded to the controversy sparked by his oration held in the corridors of the University of the Piedmontese capital in Palazzo Nuovo, occupied for several days due to the “Student Intifada” of some pro-Palestine collectives. The episode was condemned by the rector of the University, Stefano Genua, who was also urged to intervene by the phone call from the Mur minister Anna Maria Bernini. The Imam responded to the controversy, deemed “absurd”, and announced a new meeting for Friday 24 May, this time at the Polytechnic

The video of the prayer

The speech and the moment of prayer, in the presence of around thirty protesters and Muslim faithful, was published on YouTube with a video entitled “What does Palestine teach us?” and relaunched on social media by Brahima Baya. According to what has been reconstructed, those who asked that the Imam also act as “Khatib”, or the speaker who gives a short speech before the sermon, were the Muslim students.

In the video you can see around thirty people sitting in prayer on carpets spread on the ground listening to the words of the Imam inside the entrance hall of Palazzo Nuovo.

The condemnation of the rector of the University of Turin

Following the diffusion of the video, the Minister of University and Research Anna Maria Bernini protested by telephone to the rector Geuna, who specified that “the event occurred in a situation of occupation by the students, who have been preventing for days access to university teachers and staff”, considering the incident “under the full responsibility of the occupants”. In a note from the University of Turin, it is specified that both “shared a feeling of full condemnation about what happened.”

In the Imam’s prayer at the University of Turin, Baya underlined the teaching given by the resistance of the Palestinian people in these seven months of bombing in the Gaza Strip. However, his words were considered a “hymn to Jihad”.

Absurd controversy, we asked the occupant if we could pray – said Brahima Baya in response to the fuss – There was someone among the kids who felt the need and they told us no problem and they gave us a space. The prayer takes place like this, with the sermon which was also broadcast live on social media, everything in broad daylight, an absurd controversy.”

Prayer at the Polytechnic of Turin

After the episode on Friday 17th at the University, at Palazzo Nuovo, imam Brahim Baya made an appointment for another moment of prayer in the other Turin university, the Polytechnic, inviting his social network to “prayer at the Polytechnic of Turin occupied by students.”
