The young saxophonists of the “Giuseppe Freschi” music competition awarded in Sassari

During the evening the four winners performed in the Silenti room of the Banco di Sardegna together withensemble of the project “One sax above the other”.

SASSARI, 24 May 2024. The awards ceremony took place yesterday afternoon in the Silenti room of the Banco di Sardegna in Sassari “Giuseppe Freschi” music competition, dedicated to young saxophonists from schools in Sardinia. The initiative, promoted by the musical, cultural and theatrical association La Boheme in partnership with the association Giuseppe Freschi and the Liceo DA Azuni of Sassari, was presented by the teacher Luca Chessa.

In the section “Lower secondary schools” he triumphed Vittoria Floris of Arbus, followed by Manuela Atzori of Sassari and from Cristina Bonazzi And Isaiah Arosio of Sassari, third ex aequo. The section “Musical high school” saw the awarding of two first places ex aequo to Francesco Bitti Mulas by Ozieri e Letizia Castronovo of Portoscuso, second place to Cristian Bianco of Ossi and the third a Matteo Oggiano of Castelsardo. Finally, in the “Music Conservatory” sectionthe first prize was awarded to Giuseppe Bussu of Sassari, the second ad Adriana Caria of Alghero and the third year Emmanuel Depalmas of Tempio.

Before the awards ceremony, theensemble of saxophones from the “Un sax sopra l’altro” project delighted the audience with a short and highly applauded concert. The orchestra, made up of students from the Comprehensive Institute of Ozieri (teacher Sarah Cannoni), of the Istituto Comprensivo Farina di Sassari (teacher Luca Lanza), of the Comprehensive Institute Sassari-Li Punti (teacher Antonella Masia), of the Comprehensive Institute of Plagues (teacher Sarah Cannoni), del Azuni Music High School in Sassari (Luca Chessa) and of Luigi Canepa conservatory of Sassari (Enea Tonetti), then accompanied the beautiful performances of the winners of each category.

The competition, as mentioned, was dedicated to “Giuseppe Freschi”, a young man who loved music and sailing and who suddenly passed away in 2016 at just 41 years old. The association named after him was created to help young musicians with scholarships and promote cultural and sporting activities that honor his memory and keep his memory alive.
