A strong synergy between the Municipal Administration and the National Association of Civil Mutilated and Invalids (ANMIC), to support and protect citizens with disabilities and their families who reside in the municipal area, with the final aim of expanding the range of services in the city and formulate improvement hypotheses for the benefit of the local population. Today the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the parties which seals the agreement and lays solid foundations for the future.

At the conclusion of the fruitful consultation that took place regarding the issues concerning Social Policies and in particular disability, in the former Capuchin Convent, in the presence of the Mayor Graziano Milia and the ANMIC delegate Fabrizio Rodin, the agreement for the launch of a shared path aimed at encouraging social services and activities regarding assistance and protection for disabled people.

ANMIC, the National Body for the protection and representation of people with disabilities, has almost 1200 members relating to the vast area of Quartu, of which over 400 are residents of the Municipality, who require information and consultancy activities. And precisely to meet these citizens, a dedicated desk will open in the city within a few months.

The memorandum of understanding signed today will first of all make it possible to encourage information, orientation and consultancy activities for access to regional and state municipal benefits for people with disabilities. Furthermore, by facilitating access to the opportunities offered by the law, disabled people themselves and their families will be supported in the exercise and defense of their rights.

In detail, with reference to people with disabilities, it is intended to expand the possibility of electronic submission of the various requests, information and orientation activities will be promoted for access to services and benefits, personalized consultancy activities and those of socialization and leisure, also with a view to lightening the care burden for families.

With the signing of the memorandum of understanding, we are placing another brick in the construction of a citizen-friendly Quartu, ready to welcome and break down barriers. For this I want to thank ANMIC which brings its expertise and professionalism to the city – the comment of the Mayor Graziano Milia -. The offer of services continues to grow, in this case to ensure that people with disabilities are also able to choose freely about their lives. A step forward therefore towards the ‘full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms’, which is a fundamental principle of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”.
